After Yeager Airport’s overrun area was lost to a landslide in 2015, ORDERS Construction Company was selected to oversee the installation of a new retaining wall and EMAS safety system. An innovative two-part structural design, the walls are made up of traditional soldier pile and concrete lagging with rock anchors. The lower wall was backfilled with select graded soil and crushed stone and the upper wall utilized high density geofoam blocks stacked in sequence. The crew overcame many challenges during construction, including near vertical topography for wall construction and building the project during the wettest construction seasons in recent history.
